If you live in France, you would be forgiven for wanting to leave the country this week, as a series of strikes causes chaos across the nation. Rail services are being severely disrupted today as workers protest over the state railway firm SNCF’S plans to cut thousands of jobs.

It is putting serious pressure on President Jacques Chirac’s Conservative government which is trying to relax the 35 hour working week, introduced by the former Socialist-led government.
