With a couple of days to go, George W Bush’s inauguration on Thursday for his second term as President is under a cloud after a New Yorker article alleged the administration has its sites set on Iran for a future war. The piece by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh claims there are already commandos on the ground in the country to identify bombing targets.

While denying the article was true, the president said that he would not rule out military action against Iran if it was not more forthcoming about its suspected nuclear weapons programme. The US Defence Department refused to comment on the claims that they have been conducting reconnaissance missions in Iran.
