Brussels remembers the victims of a global tragedy.


European leaders and members of Belgium’s royal family were among the congregation taking part in a service in Brussels for those who died in the Asian tsunami disaster.

Six Belgians were among the more than 160,000 people to have been killed. But Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt highlighted the fact that the catastrophe touched many nations and that the response to it involved the world community. In a further gesture of solidarity the prime ministers of Sweden, Norway and Finland will travel to Thailand today to express their thanks to local authorities for helping nationals of their countries affected by the disaster.
