Colin Powell has been speaking about the crisis in Ukraine in an exclusive interview for EuroNews. The US Secretary of State dismissed Russian fears that Washington is seeking to extend its influence in Ukraine and other ex-Soviet states. “In places like Georgia, in places like Ukraine, the only interest the West has, the United States has, is for these nations to be able to choose freely how they will be led, by whom they will be led.
“And there is no reason for this to be seen as a competition between the West and Russia. Georgia, Ukraine, other nations who are finding their way forward on a path of democracy, should have good relations with Russia and should have good relations with the West.” On his last trip to Europe before stepping down from office, Colin Powell met EuroNews in Brussels where he was attending NATO’s annual ministerial meeting.
