‘It is a reminder that terrorists are still on the move’- those are the words from the US president after a deadly attack on his country’s consulate in Saudi Arabia. After talks in Washington with the interim Iraqi president, George W Bush said militants were intent on derailing upcoming Iraqi elections.
“I think that the capacity of these killers to stop an election would send a wrong signal to the world, and send a wrong signal to the Iraqi people themselves. And as the (Iraqi) president says, the people want to vote.”
A Saudi militant group that links itself to al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the attack in Jeddah that left at least nine people dead. In a message on the internet, the group said the assault on the consulate had been codenamed Fallujah, after the restive city in Western Iraq.
