On the eve of a conference of foreign ministers on Iraq violence continues to destabalise the country.Diplomats will be meeting in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheik to discuss ways of supporting Iraq’s forthcoming elections. The Iraqi Electoral Commission has now set a date of January 30 for the vote on the creation of a transitional parliament to oversee the writing of a constitution. But attacks against US-led forces and the country’s oil industry have put the viability of the elections in doubt. Monday’s talks will also focus on aid for the ongoing reconstruction of Iraq.The European Union has already committed 35 million euros to rebuilding the country.
