French premier Jean Pierre Rafarrin has attended the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Strasbourg from the Nazis. A large scale parade was attended by some of the French soldiers who liberated the city.
It follows anniversaries this year for the Normandy landings and the liberation of Paris. In an address Rafarrin said the racism and anti-semitism of the Nazis should never be tolerated again. But Rafarrin said there were troubling signs of its return. He described the recent desecration of 400 Jewish, Christian and Muslim grave sites in Alsace and talked of a disturbing nostalgia for anti semitism in particular.
