Russia working on new-age nuclear weapons

world news

Russia is preparing to arm itself with a new generation of nuclear weapons. President Vladimir Putin told a meeting of army chiefs the country would equip itself with systems that “do not yet exist and won’t exist among other nuclear powers for several years”. He added: “We are not just carrying out research and tests on state-of-the-art nuclear missiles. I am convinced that in the coming years they will form part of our equipment.”

It is understood the Russian army is working on tactical and naval missiles. Putin said the rise of international terrorism was one of the reasons for developing new weapons. But he added it was also a question of updating Russia’s nuclear shield to avoid being caught out in the face of other threats.
