Arafat said to be stable

Yasser Arafat’s condition had been described as between life and death, but the latest hosptial report say his condition is stable. The 75 year old was admitted into a military hopsital on the outskirts of Paris last week. He took a serious turn for the worse on Wednesday – A spokesman for the hospital has said that since yesterday his condition has not deteriorated. “The state of health of President Yasser Arafat has not got worse. He is considered to be stable compared to the last health bulletin 24 hours ago.”

Yasser Arafat is believed to have slipped into a coma yesterday. His supporters have held a day and night vigil outside the hospital. There have been conflicting reports as to his condition. An aide to the Palestinian President has said the coma is reversible although earlier reports claimed he was brain dead and that he was on a life support machine. An exact diagnosis has not been made, though it is known that he is suffering from a blood disorder.
