Polish woman kidnapped in Iraq

A Polish woman has reportedly become the latest foreigner to be kidnapped in Iraq. An Arabic language station broadcast a video of the unidentified woman sitting between two masked men. The name of a previously unknown group was written on the banner behind. Her comments were not audible but the station said she called for Polish troops to be pulled out of Iraq.

Poland is one of the biggest contributors to the US-led multinational force with 2,500 soldiers in the country. Public opinion in Poland heavily opposes their presence there. Warsaw plans to start scaling back its troop level after January’s election in Iraq. The Polish embassy was unable to confirm that the hostage was one of their citizens. It said the only Polish women in Iraq were those married to Iraqi men who have been living there for many years.
